Frequently asked questions
What does the assessment involve?:
- Completing some easy registration forms - available as pdf download so that you can fill them in and bring them with you. Please complete ALL questions. Any that do not apply mark as N/A.
- A structured interview: asking you all about your current injury or condition, and any other medical conditions you may have. You may be surprised by the depth of our questioning but this part of your assessment is arguably the most important as we piece together the history of your problem leading us to develop theories on the nature of the problem and the most appropriate tests and treatment options for you. We will also ask you what your goals are, and what expectations you have for treatment.
- Physical Examination: In every case we will need to carry out a thorough physical examination. This means that you will need to be prepared to undress down to your underwear. We recommend that bring a pair of shorts if you have a back or leg problem. It is vital that we are able to touch you to carry out our examination so you will be asked for your consent on the registration form for us to examine and treat you.
- Conclusion and Treatment Planning . At the end of the assessment we will advise you what we think the problem is, what has caused it and whether we are able to help you through treatment. We will discuss with you the options for treatment and approximately how many sessions we expect it may take. There are some conditions where physiotherapy may not be appropriate and if we feel we cannot help you we will discuss this with you.
What do I need to bring with me?
- Your completed registration forms
- A pair of shorts if it is your back or leg that is injured
- Means of payment - We accept cash or debit card payments, cash or cheque unless you are using health insurance
- If using health insurance, you need to bring your policy number and authorisation number.
You will still need to pay PhysioWays for each of your appointments at the time of booking and reclaim your costs from your insurance company unless otherwise agreed before you book your assessment (Currently this agreement is only in place for BUPA clients but please call us for more details). All clients must provide us with valid card payment details before booking appointments. If we agree to invoice your insurance company on your behalf, the card will not be charged except in the event that your account is not settled in full by your insurance company. Our contract is with you and you remain responsible for payment of any outstanding amounts, including late cancellations or failure to attend an appointment and you would be notified of any amount that was outstanding or over due before the payment was taken.
Why do you ask so many questions on your registration forms?
We need to have a lot of information about you to help us understand how your injury is impacting on your life. We will ask more questions at the assessment too. There are some situations where physiotherapy is not the best treatment for you and asking all these questions helps us determine if we are going to be able to help you and the best way to do that.
Why should I check that my therapist is registered with the HPC (Health Professions Council)?
See "is your therapist registered?" page. All our therapists are registered with the HPC.
Why should I see a Chartered Physiotherapist?
Chartered Physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy which is the national Professional Body - members must adhere to strict Professional Rules of conduct and to professional standards of practice. Being chartered also guarantees that the therapist has professional indemnity insurance.
How much experience do your therapists have?
All our therapists have a minimum of 4 years experience since graduating from 3 year, full time degree courses. They all have extensive post graduate training and PhysioWays provides additional support and training. See the "Practitioner Profiles" for more information.
